AMARILLO PSYCHOTHERAPY WITH EXISTENTIAL PSYCHOTHERAPIST PATRICK HUDSON

AMARILLO

Psychotherapy for Amarillo, Texas

Albuquerque psychotherapist, Patrick Hudson MA, MD, FACS is an existential depth therapist. He uses a humanistic, psychodynamic approach to his patient's mental health based on the methods developed by May, Yalom, Fromm and Jung.

He has practiced in Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1979. He is a therapist and counselor with qualifications in

mental health counseling.

Using a psychodynamic, or psychoanalytic, approach he helps his clients find meaning, and purpose, in their life and relationships. He has a special interest in working with physicians, and other therapists. As a physician for nearly 40 years, he understands the unique needs of medical doctors and other professionals.

Physicians suffer from the same emotional problems as the rest of the community, but are especially vulnerable to depression and suicide, relationship problems, and professional burnout.

Medical malpractice litigation takes a severe toll on physicians and their families. After a lawsuit most doctors feel angry and irritable. Many cannot sleep and feel isolated or alone. During this stressful time some even consider suicide or turn to drugs and alcohol.  The greatest risk is among those who try to cope without professional support and counseling.

Existential psychotherapy is defined by Yalom as “a dynamic approach to therapy which focuses on concerns that are rooted in the individual’s existence.” Dr. Hudson believes that at the root of many of our everyday concerns, such as professional burnout, depression, anxiety, and relationship problems, are four ultimate existential issues — meaninglessness, isolation, freedom and death. How we deal with these concerns is often a source of significant emotional conflict

Dr. Hudson is also a board certified plastic surgeon. Many of his patients come from  local communities in New Mexico, Texas and Southern Colorado like Amarillo, TX.
